Review:

This is our second visit to Café Madras {known for its authentic Tamil Food), with nothing less than 78 years of history to celebrate, it’s a no-frills eatery, one has to wait for a long time to get their turn especially during breakfast (waiting for around 20 to 30 minutes), but it’s worth it. The consistent quality and taste has been drawing regular patrons even today. Its favorite eatery for many Bollywood celebrities as well, have been witness myself in the first visit.

Café Madras has detailed menu which they have tried to cover most the south Indian classics i.e.  podi idli, tuppa dosa, Butter idlis, Medu vada, Andhra Pesaratttu , upma and podi, bisibelebath, Pongal, Neer dosa, ragi dosa, appam with stew, Mysore pak, and pineapple sheera, Kharabath, besides the regular idlis and dosa. Some of the dishes are served only certain days. They have today’s special displayed at the entrance and inside the café as well to make it easier.

My favourites are Tuppa Dosa served with podi with tuppa (Ghee) and served with their trademark Spicy Samabar, Pongal, Podi Idli (served with Molgaipodi), Masala Dosa and other varities of dosa they are served with Spicy Samabar, Coconut chutney. Rasam Vada was dampener normally a signature dish from South India. This time the service was bit delayed had wait for almost 20 to 25 minutes before we were served (mix up between the serving staff). To end with their Filter Kappi was good. They were serving Cranberry cooler which we took and it was simply too good 😊 Finally one can buy their coffee powder and other favorite south Indian snacks in their counter set up outside, we bought molgapodi and balls made of jaggery and murmura (Puffed Rice).

Over all minus the delay in serving the total experience was very satisfying and worthy for the effort. They charge for extra sambar or chutney ordered, but we have to say one never requires to order extra serving of sambar or chutney as we never finished the one’s served at the beginning, we have some much going on we tend to forget the side dishes 😊…!

Happy Eating !!!!!!! 😊

  • WOW, 25 to 30 minutes to wait for a meal you would certainly hope the food is that good to wait that long! I am impatient so I would want my meal quite quickly. Glad you enjoyed your meal 🙂

  • This looks like a wonderful little restaurant. I have never had any of the foods mentioned, but it all sounds very intriguing! Thanks for sharing your experience!
