Vegan/Veganism and its Benefits | Foodopium

To understand Veganism, we have to understand being vegetarian first i.e. eating a wide range of foods: all the luscious and delicious fruits and vegetables you can think of; wonderful beans and lentils; nuts and seeds; luscious vegangreens.

In short it means living a life that does not involve killing any animals for food, so we one cannot have meat, poultry or fish, and nothing that has been taken from meat, such as non-veg cheese, lard or goose fat.

To go a step further i.e. Veganism is both a practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of either the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan.  (Source Wikipedia)

To explain further veganism is a stricter form of vegetarianism; like vegetarians, vegans don’t eat any animals that have been killed and also avoid animal products altogether, so that means no eggs or dairy products and, usually, no honey either.

To insure they don’t hurt any animals many increasing number of vegetarians and Vegans, also avoid wearing or using products derived from animals or that may have involved cruelty to animals: so, no leather, wool or silk, or soap, beauty and household products that contain animal products or have been tested on animals.

Historic Perspective:

The practice can be traced to Indus valley civilization in 3300–1300 BCE Ancient India. Early vegetarians included Indian philosophers such as Mahavira and Acharya Kundakunda, the Indian poet Valluvar, the Indian emperors Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka. (Source Wikipedia)

In the western world the origin of the English term vegetarian is unknown. The earliest-known use is attributewhy vegand to the actress Fanny Kemble, writing around 1839 in Georgia in the United States.

 

Why Vegan?

Being veggie lover or vegetarian is a great method to live as an ever increasing number of individuals around the globe are finding.
