Aloo Mutter | Potatoes and Fresh Green Peas in Spiced Tomatoes Gravy

Aloo matar is a simple but delicious Punjabi authentic dish, made from aloo and fresh peas with gravy, which is widely served with roti and rice. It is a traditional curry where aloo and matar are combined together, with onion and tomatoes gravy.

  • 3 to 4 Potatoes/Aloo Boiled and Cubed
  • 1 ½ Cup Fresh Peas
  • 1 nos Onion
  • 1 ½ nos Tomatoes Blanch and peel the tomatoes
  • 2 nos Green Chilli
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • ½ tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • ¾ tsp Chilli Powder
  • ¾ tsp Raw peanut powder

Whole Garam Masala

  • 2 nos Elachi
  • 1 no Star Anise
  • 1- inch stick Cinnamon


How to Make Aloo Mutter…?

  1. Make paste of the onion and blanched tomatoes, meanwhile take a deep bottomed pan and heat 2 tbsp oil and put the whole garam masala and fry it for some time.
  2. Then add the onion and tomato paste and fry it for 2 to 3 minutes, then add the dry masala powders and add 3 to 4 tsp of water and cook it for around 4 minutes on medium flame.
  3. Add the fresh peas and cook further at this stage add the potatoes which are, pre-boiled and diced into the gravy and cook further for 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Serve with Roti/Chapati/Pulka/Rice of your choice.
