Ragi Malt | Finger Millet Porridge | Ragi Java Recipe | Weight Loss

Ragi Malt is a very nutritious drink made of Ragi/Finger Millet Powder, Sugar/Jaggery and Milk also can be substituted with water for people who do not like milk. In our childhood hood many have grown up having this drink in the morning as a starter for the day ….😊. To date we give our daughter in the morning Ragi Malt but with many other ingredients which are added to the powder which makes it more protein shake/malt …..😊 .
Traditionally ragi malt is made as a snack or morning drink before having breakfast. It’s known as nachani and mandika in northern and western India and as ragulu in Andhra, ragi in Karnataka and keppai in tamil and In English, it’s known as finger millet.
We normally have two ways to make flour one directly takes ragi/finger millet and gets it powdered in a flour mill or we also can alternatively we can wash and sprout the ragi and shade dry it and then mill them to flour.
Traditionally the second method i.e., the sprouted ragi/finger millet is what is used along with water or milk for ragi malt, now have seen many using along with badam and ealchi powder as well give it that taste and depth to the drink. It’s an all-personal choice one can say. Nowadays we get this in the store just have to bring the ragi malt powder and make it as per instructions.

Benefits of Ragi are many first of all the health benefits it rich in vitamin A and also rich in iron and calcium. Since it’s very rich in Iron highly suitable for individuals with low hemoglobin levels. All the minerals and vitamins present are easily absorbed by the body and digestible too. Its healthy for women, babies, individuals suffering from diabetes, cholesterol, weight control, iron deficiency (anemia), helps in increasing bone weight in growing children because of calcium content in ragi/finger millet flour.
Many a times ragi malt is cooked with water here I have used milk which gives very different texture and taste to the ragi malt.
